ALEA III Summer Meetings 2017
An invitation to audio / visual artists, composers and performers to create new projects.
Artistic director Theodore Antoniou invites audio / visual artists, composers, performers (singers, intsrumentalists, conductors) to spend ten days on the splendid island of Naxos and meet colleagues from other parts of the world, play music, exchange ideas, propose new projects and enjoy the beaches and the 5,000 year history of an island in the heart of the Aegean Sea.
Collaborate to create new works in:
Video Art, Animation, Silent Film, Installations, Projection Mapping, Time-lapse, Performance Art, etc.
Following the initial ten-day acquaintance period (late August 2017), participants can work together for a year and present finished projects in Naxos during July and August 2018, as well as in Boston during the 2018-2019 season.
We would suggest considering sources of inspiration related to the history, the traditions, the music, or any other aspect of the island of Naxos and the Archipelago, although this is not a requirement.
In the course of the August 2017 residency participating artists, composers and instrumentalists are encouraged to present their work during scheduled activities which include:
- Daily meetings and presentations (10:00 am – 1:00 pm and 7:00 – 10:00 pm)
- Evening concerts, events, projects in towns and villages on the island
- Masterclasses
- Chamber music rehearsals of works from the 17th to the 21st century (participants choose the repertory)
- Discussion and analysis of 20th century works
